What is MST?
Multisystemic Therapy (MST) is an evidence - based intervention designed for youth ages 12-17 at-risk for out-of-home and congregate care placements due to anti-social or delinquent behaviors. This model utilizes a family-systems treatment approach to address specific needs of adolescents such as substance abuse, behavioral risks, child welfare involvement, and secure incarceration transitional services. MST treatment lasts between 3-5 months and can be provided in diverse community settings including the home, school and neighborhood.
MST is a Well-Supported Program Under the Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA)
The Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) is a federal law enacted in 2018 which aims to prioritize and fund family-based interventions and support services under the Title IV-E Prevention Services Clearinghouse. MST is recognized as a well-supported, evidence-based intervention with over 55 peer-reviewed studies and numerous randomized trials supporting its effectiveness.
MST has an illustrious research heritage and emphasizes model adherence as a critical factor in its success
35+ YEARS OF SCIENCE
MST is among the most extensively researched interventions, with 55+ published peer-reviewed studies and more than two dozen randomized trials, including by independent, non-developer associated researchers
CONSISTENT OUTCOMES
MST has shown consistent outcomes such as reduced rates of juvenile delinquency, decreased out-of-home placements, fewer issues with family instability and more.
ROLE OF MODEL ADHERENCE
Adherence to MST core principles enhances treatment consistency across different MST programs and maximizes the likelihood of achieving positive results for families
